Climate Kids Participate in Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Ocean Plastic Pollution Summit

Climate Kids from Mission Bay High School traveled to Monterey Bay Aquarium to participate in the Ocean Plastic Pollution Summit.

Each day, we throw away about 300 million tons of petroleum-based plastic bottles, bags, utensils, packaging and other so-called disposable items. Sadly, these disposable plastics persist in the environment and may travel throughout the global food web forever. Climate Kids Ambassadors from Mission Bay High School recently traveled to Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Ocean Plastic Pollution Summit to present the incredible work they have been doing in reducing plastic pollution in their community.

Traveling up the California coast, our Climate Kids Ambassadors spent two days volunteering and studying at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories and then presented their work at the Ocean Plastic Pollution Summit. Led by teacher and Climate Science Alliance Climate Adaptation Leader, Steve Walters, students presented their year-long project, which focused on the reduction of plastic straws in restaurants on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach at the Summit.

Congrats to the Climate Kids Ambassadors for a job well done and for your continued commitment to help protect the earth!
